Two Palestine men have been arrested for murder after another Palestine man died at Palestine Regional Medical Center due to injuries from an alleged street brawl that occurred sometime Sunday, September 9, 2012.
According to a press release from the Palestine Police Department, on Sunday officers with the Palestine Police Department were dispatched to a fight at the corner of Howard St and Illinois St. When officers arrived on scene they found a man, later identified as Jason Villanueva, lying near the street.
The Villanueva was transported by ambulance to Palestine Regional Medical Center where it was learned that he had received a stab wound to the upper chest area. Villanueva later died from his injuries and was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace James Todd. Judge Todd then ordered an autopsy be performed due to the nature of Villanueva’s death. Villanueva’s body has been sent to the Forensic Medical Center of Texas located in Tyler.
Sgt. Munize with the Palestine PD reported that during the initial investigation, officers detained Jose Arturo Garcia, 23, and Franco Garcia, 36, in the 700 block of Cottage St. and determined that both individuals had been involved in the fight that led to the death of Villanueva. The two men were arrested for Felony Murder and booked into the Anderson County Jail. No bond had been set as of Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m.
