Lovelady will be hosting their 31st Annual Lovelady Lovefest this Saturday, Feb. 9, 2012 with the theme “Peace, Love & Lovefest.’
This year’s Coronation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 that will be held at Lovelady High School at 7 p.m. This year’s court includes Crown Bearer Lucky Holbrook, Flower Girl Jayda Sherman, Seventh Grade Princess Victoria Gatlin and escort Brett Grahn, Eight Grade Princess Faith Conwell and escort Ethan Campbell, Freshman Princess Kayla Allen and escort Jacob Jeffus, Sophomore Princess Katelin Stone and escort Max Cousins, Junior Princess Taylor Thompson and escort Tanner Bales and Senior Princess Michelle Moss. The 2012 Lovefest Queen Ryley Cormack will crown the new queen during this event. The newly crowned queen will then reign over the remainder of the festivities. Admission for adults will be $4.00 and $2.00 for students, children 4 and under will enter for free.
Contestants for the Bar-B-Que Cook-Off will set up on Friday, February 8 and a Calcutta Auction will be held on Brisket and Chili. This year’s cook-off categories will include ribs, brisket, chicken, chili, pinto beans and jack pot beans. All raw meat must be inspected by an official before cooking begins. Chili must be cooked on sight and made from scratch and only dry pinto beans can be used. Registration for two categories will be $110. There will be a $10 charge for each additional category. A cook’s meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday in front of the Cook-Off Headquarters. Chili will be judged first at 12 noon. Ribs will follow at 1 p.m., then pinto beans at 2 p.m. , chicken at 3 p.m. and brisket at 4 p.m. Awards will be presented at 4:30 p.m. in front of Cook-Off Headquarters and pictures will be taken. First, second and third place will be awarded for the categories of chili, ribs, brisket, chicken and pinto beans. First place in each category will receive $100. One first place award of $100 will be give for Showmanship. Jack Pot Beans are an optional category. The entry fee is $10. Although there is no awards for this category, the winners will collect 80 percent of the [Jack Pot Bean] entry fee monies. All proceeds from this event will benefit the benevolent projects of the Lovelady Masonic Lodge, who is hosting this event. According to the event chair, this year’s competition is completely full with 34 entries and they will not be taking anymore entries at this time.
Line-up for the annual parade will be held in the Lovelady State Bank parking lot again this year and the parade, that begins at 10 a.m., will travel from Lovelady State Bank north to the Lovelady High School parking lot.
The Love-Fest Baby Beauty Contest will also begin at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Lovelady located on Reed Street (turn left at the Pizza Pro and go over one block to Reed Street). All early entry forms for this event must be filled out and mailed in with a $15 entry fee to the First United Methodist Church, c/o Mary Allen, P.O. Box 54, Lovelady, Texas 75851, no later than February 9. All registrations filled out the morning of the even must filled out and turned in by 10:30 a.m. when registrations cease. Judging will be in the age groups of 0 to 6 months, 6 to 12 months, one year olds, two year olds, three year olds and four year olds. Boys and Girls will be judged separately. There will be five judging chambers, each with three judges. Contestants will be escorted into the room with their parents and visit with the judges. Trophies will be awarded for the first place, second place and third place in each group. High point trophies will got to Little Miss Love-Fest and Little Mr. Love-Fest. The awards ceremony will be on held at 2 p.m. at the Band Stand located in the City Park during the Lovefest.
After the parade, the festival will shift into high gear, with lots of fun for everyone. There will be entertainment for the kids including a petting zoo. Festival foods galore, including funnel cakes, fried oreos, sausage on a stick, corn dogs and much, much, more. There will also be lots of great arts and crafts booths and live entertainment in the park throughout the day.
The day’s events will end with the Lovefest Dance in the Lovelady Old Gym from 7 p.m. to 12 p.m. with music from the Loose Gravel Band. Admission is $8 for singles, $15 for couples and $5 for 12 and under with an adult. This is a BYOB event. There will be a $10 cooler charge; no glass containers allowed. Concessions will be available.
