Home Crime & Punishment Details Unfolding In Elkhart Murder/Attempted Suicide Case

Anderson County authorities continue to investigate a possible murder/attempted suicide that occurred in Elkhart, Texas on Wednesday morning, Jan. 15, 2014.

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office was reportedly dispatched to a residence at 410 E. Parker St. in Elkhart at 9:01 a.m. When deputies entered the home they found the deceased body of a 42-year-old female. A 44-year-old male, with a gun shot wound, was also found lying face down on the floor of the residence still breathing.

The man and woman, whose identities have not yet been released, were divorced. The man was reportedly not living at the home at the time of the incident. The couple are reportedly the parents of three children who were not home at the time of the incident.

The man was care flighted to a hospital in Tyler for medical treatment.

The Elkhart ISD elementary, intermediate and middle school campuses, which are located in close proximity of the incident, were put on lockdown during the initial investigation of the scene as a safety precaution. That lockdown was lifted later in the day.

This investigation is ongoing. Officers are currently collecting evidence in the home.
